In NJ, we can offset your past 12 months electric usage by 100% if you have enough roof space.  Meaning, if you use 10,000kwh per year, we can only put enough panels on your home to offset 10,000kwh of usage.  The electric company will not allow you to produce more than you use.

Recognizing the potential need for roof navigation during emergencies, the most recent NEC requirements also call for a 24” set back from an abutment or roof edge. It varies depending on the pitch of the roof, shingle type, roof condition and the number of shingle layers; however, if you replace your roof with solar, there will be zero out of pocket cost. 

No.  New Jersey requires every residential property to be connected to the grid.

The solar panels generate electricity from the sun which flows to an inverter converting it to usable energy for the home (AC electricity) and any excess energy is sent back to the grid.  

Yes, in addition to the federal incentives, NJ also has state incentives.  There are some caveats to these incentives and your solar representative will review them in detail.

No.  There are no moving parts that require maintenance and they do not require cleaning due to rain water that washes them free of debris.  It's not necessary, but if you feel the need to clean them, it's recommended to only use non-abrasive, gentle, biodegradable and environmentally friendly like Dawn Dish Soap.  Dawn will break down dirt and will not cause harm to the panels, plants or animals. 

 Systems are installed with engineering approval, considering weight and wind uplift for your specific region and the roof pitch will help snow slide off the panels. In addition, voltage actually travels better in cold weather! 

You will be able to monitor how much energy you are using, how much energy the solar panels are producing and if the panels are working efficiently through an app.

If your system is designed to offset your electricity usage 100%, you will only be charged the connectivity fee to stay connected to the grid.  this fee is generally $5-$8 depending on your utility provider.  

When you go solar, the electric company will install a net meter.  This means when you produce energy during the day to use at night, any excess energy will be sent back to the grid and the electric company will pay you for that energy creating a credit balance on your electric bill.  

Yes, businesses can install solar and in addition to the federal and state incentives, they can also depreciate the cost of the solar system.  

There is no cheaper way to get a new roof when you go solar.  The federal and state incentives can typically pay for your new roof with zero out of pocket.  

Purchasing the system may provide slightly better returns on investment over the long run, but typically have a longer break even point of approximately 7-10 years, but there are some caveats.  When financing, in order for your loan payment to not increase, you will need to make a lump sum payment equivalent to the 30% tax credit you receive.  If you do not apply this lump sum payment to your solar loan by month 19, your payment will increase significantly. If you do a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement), you will simply swap out your electric bill for a much lower payment and this payment will typically be fixed for 25 years and will never change.  This eliminates the anxiety of having those super high electric bills in the summer.  Knowing the exact amount of your monthly electric bill gives you peace of mind that your solar payment will never change or increase and you also have the ability to purchase the system anytime after the 5th year.
